Octet Gallus, named Donit at their foundation in 1975 and changed into
present name at the 400th anniversary of death of J. C Gallus, was
founded to preserve Slovene traditions in songs such as nocturnal visit
to one's sweetheart, celebration of a wedding and others. The octet
unites singers from different parts of Slovenia.The first artistic
leader of the octet was Tone Lovrenčič, followed by Marjan Trček and
later on Alojz Osvald.

Currently, the artistic leader of octet Gallus is Tadej Osvald. He has
been a member of the professional Slovenian Chamber Choir since 2001 and
a member of octet Gallus since 1999. He dedicated his life completely to
music. He studied singing at Srednja glasbena in baletna šola, Ljubljana
and occasionally performs as a soloist.

Octet Gallus performed on concerts across Slovenia, the republics of
fomer Yugoslavia, Italy, Austria and Germany and recorded for the
archive of Radio and Television Slovenia. Their visit to Carinthia and
collaboration with Pavel Kernjak led to a long lasting friendship with
the Kernjak family.
Octet Gallus succesfully took part at national competitons and performed
with several other ensembles, especially with group Vitra from Ribnica.
Octet Gallus was awarded Golden Seal by the Public Fund for Cultural
Activites of Republic Slovenia and Gallus award by community Ribnica.
Their repertoire is diverse and includes works by Gallus, Russian
liturgy, Russian folk songs, Slovene folk songs, contemporary music,
Catholic liturgy and songs from other European nations.
At the 30 th anniversary of their foundation, octet Gallus recorded a
compact disc with a profile of their artistic activity.
